What beard SMP does.
Beard SMP, also called beard micropigmentation, places thousands of tiny dots of pigment in the skin of your beard area. Each dot copies a short hair, so gaps and thin areas blend into the rest of your beard.
It works with the hair you already have. Your beard keeps growing as normal, and the pigment fills in the skin that used to show through. It's the same technique as our scalp micropigmentation.
- Patchy cheeksFills the gaps that show when your beard is short.
- A moustache that won't connectJoins the moustache to the beard at the corners of the mouth.
- Thin or uneven growthEvens out the density so the whole beard looks the same.
- Soft beard linesSharpens the cheek and neck lines, like a fresh line-up.
- Scars in the beardBreaks up the line of a scar so it blends in.
- Beard loss from alopeciaRestores the look of a beard once your hair loss has been stable for a while.
From consultation to finished beard.

Does beard SMP look like real hair?
From a normal distance it reads as stubble. It's pigment in the skin rather than hair, so it suits a short or trimmed beard best.
Can I still grow my beard?
Yes. Your beard grows as normal. Kept short, the pigment fills the gaps. Grown longer, your own hair covers it.
Will it match my beard colour?
We match the pigment to your beard at your consultation. It works best on brown and black beards. Grey, ginger and blonde beards are harder to match, and we'll tell you honestly if it won't look right.
Does it hurt?
Most people describe it as uncomfortable rather than painful, and you can take a break whenever you need one.
When can I shave again?
Leave the treated area for about a week after each session. After that, shave or trim as normal.
How long does it last?
Several years. It softens slowly, so most people have a top-up every few years.
Is it the same as a beard transplant?
No. A beard transplant moves hair follicles in surgery. Beard SMP is pigment in the skin, with no surgery and very little downtime.
